Wellington Ngozi with one of his charges, Key Vote. Wellington is the 1st licenced assistant trainer to have come through the ranks of the Groom's School. He is also an accomplished rider and has won a number of the Work Rider's Races. He is an extremely good horseman that has a special understanding of his horses!
Robbie Davie has been Assistant Trainer to Stan for about 10 years, (with a short break somewhere in between) and is his right-hand man. He is fluent in Xhosa, which is a tremendous help in the yard. His interest in racing was kindled when his elder brother, Tex, was accepted at the Jockey Academy as an apprentice. Robbie wanted to follow suite, but was too big and so became involved in the training of the horses. The rest, as they say, is history. He is a huge asset to the yard, and Stan can happily go off to Durban for the Winter Season knowing that the Cape Town horses are in good hands while he is away!
Boffin Elley has been involved with horses her entire life, having her first pony at the age of 5. She started riding work at 13 and has ridden in a number of Amateur races, both on the flat and in hurdle races. She has also succesfully competed in the show jumping arena, as well as eventing. Boffin continues to ride work on Stan's horses, and is actively involved in the yard.
Bliksem, Gruff and Bokkie.
Gruff has an important task in the yard. He is wonderful at calming nervous horses and often spends months at a time 'baby-sitting' a highly strung animal! He will eat and sleep with his charge and can form a strong bond with him/her. He is definitely part of the team!
